After Marlies finished art school in Breda in 1969 she went to Japan to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kyoto from 1970 tot 1971. 

Maybe that is why the shape of this vase reminds me a little of a kimono. The decoration has a very Japanese feel to it as well.
